My daughter messed up my wife Windows XP screen set up and it's driving her
crazy and she's driving me crazy.

The toolbar at the bottom of the desktop is about twice as thick as it
should be and cannot be shrunk by grabbing it and dragging it down a bit.
The clock in the tray, which usually just shows the time, now has 3 lines
with the time on top, then the day of the week and then mm/dd/yy on the
bottom. How do I get this back to the normal??

First note that it's called the "Task" Bar. Although most people have it a
single line, there is really no "should be" or "normal"; how big it is is up
to you; I have mine two lines high because I like it that way.

The task bar is resizable, like a window. Put the cursor on the edge and
make it turn into a double-headed arrow. Then click and drag it to the size
you want.

If it won't resize, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it and
uncheck "Lock the Taskbar," Then try again.

Also note that if you have toolbars on the task bar on multiple lines, you
won't be able to reduce the task bar size to fewer than that number of
lines. Put all the toolbars on one line first.

Ken, I got it squared away. There was only one toolbar checked, the "Quick
Launch", so I just couldn't figure out why it was twice as thick as it
should have been and why I couldn't resize it. There were some funny
separators before the Quick Launch area and one below on the next line. I
dragged the one below up to the top line and then I was able to grab the
edge and resize the entire Task Bar. thanks for your input.

You're welcome, and glad it's fixed.
