I have had to troubleshoot a couple of problems on my computer this month, and
so have been relying on the readouts in Computer Management.

In order to prepare a description for my technician (off-site) I have started my
own problem log.

Today I was reviewing my log with the original events in Computer management and
have been changing lots of dates that are 1 day "off." (Not normal)

So I looked at my computer clock. It is set for today's correct month and day,
but it is also set for Eastern Daylight Time. I am in the correct zone for New
York State: (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time USA & Canada.

Just went to Services and my Windows time is set for Manual, but has not been
"started." Can I assume that is my problem? Should it be on automatic and
started? and what are the implications when I change to automatic? Will all the
dates in the Computer Management logs be changed, or should I just remember this
problem for the future?

I believe you are asking about W32Time:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;223184

You need a sntp server. This assumes you have a constant on connection.

I use this one: 132.163.4.101

You would set your time server like so in command prompt:

Start | Run | cmd | OK | net time /SETSNTP:132.163.4.101

Type net tme /? for more info.

After this you can set to automatic startup. Nothing will be reset. This makes sure your Windows clock is accurate.
