Well, installing deskmenu went fine after I manually put a shortcut to
deskmenu in the startup folder.

Now I want my old cliptray" back. I've searched for it on Microsoft .com but
although I get white paper articles I can't seem to find the app or the
powertools that had it--I think they were the Win98 powertools (?)

anyone know where to find cliptray or even if it will work with WinXP pro?

thanks

David,

Thanks...I already have all that. But if you have all the files at the ftp
site there doesn't seem to be anyway to install it. I think I need the .inf
file.

I tried placing the above files in windows--just the same directories from
which they came--and when I tried to run cliptray I got error
messages..can't find file. There were several in sucession--one a dll. I
tried moving it from Win98 but just got another error message for adiffernt
file when I tried to run it again.

Any other ideas?

Anyone have that app in the original package?

Cliptray is not a Microsoft product, but a third-party utility. You can find
it at http://cliptray.f2o.org/Home.htm and it says there that it works with
XP.

Thanks. There must be more than program by that name, then.

Installed the third party clip tray...not as good as the original...wish I
could find it.

thanks

I found the utility. It is, like you said, in the Win98 Resource kit--on the
Win98 install disk.

However, I have a feeling that trrying to install the resource kit on
WinXPPR would be a bad idea even for just the one utility.Anyone tried it?

I installed the latest third party Cliptray and it's closer to what I am
looking for than all the other clipboard extenders put together but still
not quite the thing.

You don't need to install it. All setup does is copy the folder to the hard drive.

All I can figure then is that cliptray needs certain files that are integral
to Win98 but not in WinXP. Because I copied all those files to the windows
directory (cliptray.cnt was originally in Windwos/system and that's where I
coppied it to) and when I tried to run it, I got an error message saying
that it couldn't find a dll. When I searched for that dll on my Win98
machine and copied it to my WinXp amchine, it just said it couldn't find
another file it needed. Perhaps if I copied them all it would run but at
that point I got nervous and backed out.

I actually know what file it's looking for, and it is not part of 98. However one of the other apps install it in the 98 resource kit. This is because it is a common file and people don't distribute it as you most likely got it from somewhere else.

I'm sure if you post the error message people will tell you what to do.

David,

Just in case you or anyone else is interested, I got cliptray from the Win98
Resource kit working on WinXP98. It really wasn't a problem and when I got
to thinking about it, I realized that it is pretty much a stand-alone
app--no registry entries, nada. I had to copy some system files from Win98
but since they have no same-name analogues in WinXP, I figure they should be
accessed only for clip tray's use.

Anyway...it looks good, works good and I'm happy.

thank you.
