I am using windows movie maker for more than six months, but I am facing this
problem first time. I am importing an avi file, with checkbox checked to
create clips. It is importing as single file and not creating clips. I tried
using option 'Create Clips' after importing file, it doesn't help either. My
old movie files are still imported as clip.

Any suggestions what condition can prevent making clips. My avi file is 20
minutes and have lot of significant frame changes

Thanks PapaJohn, but as per documents of movie maker if there are not
timecode breaks, then it will be clipped per scene change. In my earlier
movies of similar nature (dv-avi files, taken from same camcoder), I was
getting clips according to frame change. In last few days only I am getting
problem in creating clips. Also my earlier files of dv-avi formats are still
breaking per frame change.

The Importing Source Files > Video > Intro page of my website has a section
about Automatic Clip Detection. It has what I know of the topic.... if a
DV-AVI file doesn't have breaks in time code, Movie Maker doesn't shift to
trying scene changes, which it uses for analog sources.

Thanks PapaJohn for clarification. I have tried again to download avi from
camcoder and import in moviemaker (create clips button is checked). I am not
getting clips created with time code also. I am not sure what changed, but
earlier I used to do same thing and clips were created.

Do you think I am not correctly downloading or some codes is required to
create clips. Is there any way by which I can check if the avi is time coded
or not. Also does downloading of some codes will help in creating clips?
