I am new to movie maker. I am working on a network of computers. I have
completed a movies with clips and title pages and credits and all. I follow
all procedures for saving the movies. the next day when i go to edit the
movies on the network, the movies clips I selected have been deleted (the
clips appear with a big red x in the clip) but all the printed clips are
intact. What am I doing wrong. thanks for the help. I am using xp
professional and moviemaker I'm not sure which version.

Thanks for the quick reply. So the source file will be under the same name
as the clip? I'm really new to this. I have put together 2 movies that I
spent hours editing. and every time I go back into the movie those red x's
appear I start at step 1, very frustrating, aggravating.....etc

no... a single source file like a video file can be used by 100 clips, each
with different names

things usually stay put until you do something to change it and cause the
red X's... maybe your network is such that you're breaking the linkage and
having to re-establish them when you start back up.

That is extremely helpful. I will go to the network administrator and see if
I can work it out . Thank you so very much.

I have done the exact same thing as "abtm." I am new to Movie Maker, and
after spending hours editing I was in the process of saving my projects to my
computer before burning to DVD. While saving I received a warning that I had
run out of space. Unfortunately, instead of deleting old projects that I had
already saved I mistakenly deleted my entire 4.8 GB source file. Now my
projects show red X's.

Is there any way I can recover these source files without downloading video
from my DV Camera all over again? I just deleted these today so I am hoping
there is a way to recover. Please advise.

Thanks!

Well hopefully they are intact in your recycle bin.
Double click your recycle bin on your desktop and find the file you need.
Then right-click it and restore it.
