I have a clip utility on another system that I need on XP. Does it
exist?

With one click it merely appends a dated text clip to a prenamed text
file that can later be searched, edited, copied, etc., easily. I keep
all kinds of stuff there and refer to it months, even years later (At
about 100K I rename, save and restart so I have a series of files).
URLs, receipts, letters, articles, codes, quotes, tips - whatever. Even
recipes and a list of movies. Clip utilities I've found out there can't
even be searched and do a thousand things I'm not at all interersted in.
Suggestions?

Maybe ClipMate would do what you want? They offer a 30 day trial. URL to
the program's screenshots page: http://www.thornsoft.com/screenshots6.htm

I've used ClipMate in the past (and liked it very much) but now use
Microsoft's One Note for capturing, organizing and search through all kinds
of information. It's not a clipboard program but it is a good depository
for collected information. Information and a link for a free trial can be
found here:

May I assume that is not a stand alone program? I don't use or have
Office.

Thanks

One Note is a stand alone product. No need to have other Office products
installed to use it.

I use Clipmate. I'm still using version 6.3 as there is no
bang-for-upgrade-buck (for me) to go to version 7. I've tried other
products but none compare. ClipMagic comes close and is free but it has
defects (like losing its database occasionally and interferring with the
keyboard, like the underscore suddenly stops working). The defects may
be only evidenced under certain configurations so ClipMagic may work
okay for you. I needed something at work for free that was close to
ClipMate but had to abandon ClipMagic because of its defects and
couldn't afford any more wasted worktime trying to fix or recover it.

products

Both let you define collections so you can collect related clips
together and you can organize them into a hierarchy, too.

M-8 Free Multi-Clipboard works great. Holds 25 items, including graphics.
Idiot proof.

Databases and all that are the enemy to me. Appending text to a single
text file is the perfect solution for me, but apparently there is no
such thing for windows.

Thanks. I checked it out earlier. As simple as they come, as far as
windows goes, but I can put as many entries as I want in what I'm using
on another system - up to any size file that will fit into a text editor
- thousands if I want to, any type of text I want to. I have no use at
all for graphics in this application. Everything is appended to a text
file. That's perfect for me.

Keep an eye on your clipboard contents file it can become a big file
after a while, it does not delete text after computer restarts it just
keeps adding all your clips to it in a simple text file
you will need to put a shortcut in your startup folder
when you start your comp clipboard copy starts click on save clipboard
content to start it I have beep after saving on as well
I have tried many clipboard programs this one is the best

Hm, thanks. They give you a place to log on, but no place to register
FOR a logon identity. That whole logon business seems wierd. And even
with a code from another page it demands to go online then fails with a
500. Their code can't find an include.

Simple, yes, but M-8 doesn't come close to what you can do with ClipMate
or ClipMagic, and the user did specify that they want to create
collections and to do searches. I looked briefly at M-8, long enough to
realize that it was just another clipboard *buffer*. If that's all you
want then great. It doesn't look like what the OP said they wanted.

That single click can you do that appends the clipboard to a prenamed
file in notepad - below the current date? Are you talking about a
script?

Any multiplicity of features beside a clip appended a text file under a
current date is ice on the cake.

Thanks

Thanks. It looks very powerful. I'm looking for a very simple, text save
only utility. If I could still program it would take about 50KB.
