I updated to ie6

when i did this
a program on my pc Goldmine
now asks me with a pop up when I try to copy

it says
"do you want this page to paste from your clipboard?"

I think this is coming from ie6

can you help me to turn this off?

thanks

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., Win98SE; WinXP SP3) when
posting to this newsgroup.

Are you certain that you "updated to IE6"? Is the machine fully patched at
Windows Update?

I have windows xp media center version 2002
service pack 2

Are you certain that you "updated to IE6"?
I WAS USING A VERSION BEFORE IE6 I THINK BUT NOT SURE
Is the machine fully patched at
Windows Update?
HOW WOULD I CHECK THIS?

thanks
Hal

You sure you *just* updated to IE6? Might it be IE7 instead? Go under
Help -> About menu in IE to check.

There are no Goldmine forums for user discussions? Sometimes vendor
doesn't provide forums because they fear the exposure of negative
criticisms. I suppose you could ask the software vendor about the
problem related to their product.

Go into Internet Options -> Security -> Internet security zone,
customize, and disable the paste warning under the scripting options
(it's called "Allow programmatic clipboard access"; might be different
back in IE6).

However, when you disable this prompt (i.e., change from Prompt to
Enable) then any web site that wants to paste into or copy out of your
Windows clipboard can do so. So after you paste your credit card
number into the clipboard (to use elsewhere) and then visit a site that
wants to copy this data, they now have your credit card number and
never had to ask you for it. Consider if this a security hole that you
want to open.

Since Goldmine is a local application, you can probably edit the Local
Intranet or My Computer security zones to disable this prompt (i.e.,
always allow). I don't know Goldmine but the only way this prompt
would appear if they went cheap on coding and decided to convert their
legacy code (i.e., a local self-contained client that manages its own
windows) to an HTA (HTml Application). In my Local Intranet security
zone, this pasting option is set to Enabled (so there is no prompt for
a locally executed webapp or HTA). The My Computer security zone is
normally hidden; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315933.

Your machine came with IE6 preinstalled. You may have installed an update
*for* IE6 but you didn't update *to* IE6.

Open an IE window | Click on HELP | ABOUT: What version is listed here
(e.g., v6.0.2900.9999CO)?
HOW WOULD I CHECK THIS?

1. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Accept the install of any
software required to use Windows Update (if any) then click on CONTINUE |
Select CUSTOM and scan | Accept the install of any critical security updates
offered | Follow all prompts.

NB: Do NOT install Windows XP Service Pack 3 or IE7 at this time!!

2. Now make certain that Automatic Updates is enabled and configured as you
like; see...

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in WinXP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525

Now back to your original question...

Is this the Goldmine you're referring to? => http://www.goldmine.com/

Open IE Tools | Internet Options | Security | (select) Internet (zone) |
click on Custom Level | scroll down to Scripting | Allow Programmatic
clipboard access: If PROMPT is selected here, that's why you're getting the
"do you want this page to paste from your clipboard?" prompt.

Now, while selecting ENABLE will stop this prompt when you're using
Goldmine, it will also enable any other application to access your clipboard
and that's a major security risk IMHO.
