Wow, I'm surprised PPT 4.0 will run on WinXP, but since I was corrected
last week and told that PPT 4.0 will indeed run on Win95, I guess I'm
not as surprised as I could have been!
At any rate, I've no idea if that's the problem with the Clip Art or
not, and I can't even think where to begin to troubleshoot that old a
Clip Gallery.
I think I'd be tempted to get a more updated version of PPT, as you
probably suspected someone would suggest.
As for the procedure,
well, you can check used software companies or Ebay and the like for
various versions of PPT. PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP) is the most recent
version, and PPT 2003 is due out later this year.
You may be able to find PPT 97 or 2000 for sale, but they'll be more
scarce than 2002, I'd imagine.
Regardless, I'd suggest purchasing the full version of PPT rather than
an upgrade version. An upgrade will be less expensive, but I honestly
don't know if you'd be able to upgrade PPT 4.0. But it may be possible
-- anybody know for sure?
The list of versions in order from oldest to newest is as follows:
PPT 4.0
PPT 95
PPT 97
PPT 2000
PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP)
PPT 2003 (not yet released, but should be out this year)
Rule of thumb for eligibility to use a program upgrade is 2 prior
versions. So, let's say you have PPT 97 -- the full program --
installed. You could then purchase either the PPT 2000 or the PPT 2002
upgrade. You probably won't be able to wait until later in the year and
use the PPT 2003 upgrade with PPT 97, though.
Or, say you have PPT 2000 installed. You could use either the PPT 2002
or 2003 upgrade to update PPT 2000.
In your case, I *think* you could install the PPT 95 upgrade to your
existing PPT 4.0. Then you could use the PPT 2000 upgrade to update that
PPT 95. And then, if you wanted, you could upgrade to either PPT 2002 or
2003 later.
Seems easier to just buy the full version of PPT 2002, though, and be
done with it.
Did any of that make sense at all?!
