I am running a Windows 2000 child domain in Native mode. The client
computers authenticate in Novell and Windows as we are in the process of
migrating a database over to Windows.

All of a sudden some of my clients cannot log into the Network. They are
able to Authenticate in Novell however they cannot authenticate in Windows.
The error message I get is:

"Failed to log into WindowsNT/2000 workstation. Make sure your user name
and connection information are correct, then type your password again. Note:
Windows NT/200 passwords are case sensitive check the caps lock"

The domain was made "Native" 3 days earlier however the problem just
appeared now.

The Event Viewer is returning errors of 1311, 1568, 1126, and 1567 however
i'm not sure that these errors are related to this problem. Any assistance
is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is one DC in the child domain. The users are indeed logging in from
the cntrl alt delete screen. I can log on to the client as a local admin
and his computer is getting an ip address. I rejoined him to the domain
however he was still having the same problem. For the life of me though, I
cannot figure out why it will not authenticate with the domain. All users
who are logging off are experiencing this problem.
I tried what you suggested mapping a drive to \\servername\netlogon and
asked for a qualified username however I received no error messages.

Hi Chris,

How many DCs do you have in your child domain?
If multiple DCs, is there just one site that the clients are failing to
authenticate with?
Are users attempting to login to the 2k domain from the ctrl, alt, del dialog
box or mapping drives?
Does it fail for all users or just some?
If you can logon locally, try mapping a drive to the

Chris,

If when you attempt to map a drive to the netlogon share, it continues to
prompt you for username and password after you've explicitly typed in the
right credentials, then we probably need you to run the command "dcdiag /v
c:\dcdiagOutput.txt" from the command prompt. If you don't already have
Support Tools installed on the DC, then you will need to do that which is
located in the Support folder of the Windows 2000 Server CD. Please send the
attached file or output back to me once completed.

Also, please tell me what the exact error is when you attempt to login to
the domain from the ctrl, alt, del dialog box.
