Clients cannot find a domain controller

I have replaced a server in one of our remote
locations .Initially DCPromo seems to work but didn't add
any entries in the NTDS settings on the PDC, which caused
problems managing the machine remotely. Subsequently, I
did a DCPromo /forceremoval and ran DCPromo again which
registered NTDS settings on the PDC. The problem I have
now is local machines can not find a domain controller to
logon to, even though they can ping the local server,
subsequently, they cannot access any network services -
any ideas?

What is your DNS configuration George. DNS is needed for Windows clients
(2000/XP/2003) to locate domain controller. You must make sure, that your
clients are pointing to your internal DNS server. Run dcdiag and netdiag on
your DC to find out more information on the status of your DC.
