None of the clients all 2000pro get an error when tring to open the domain
when tring to browse the network. I can make shortcuts to shares I can
creat maped drives but error when I double click the domain in netowrk
neghborhood.
I have browser server turned off on all the clients as suggested in an
artical I saw.

Does the ipconfig/all show that everything is pointing to the server-IP? How
many nics in the server?
Which exact errormessage do you get?

Yes everything is set in dhcp to point the gateway and the dns of the
server. I can ping by name and by ip.
There is only 1 NIC in the server. The internet is done with dialup for now
until DSL is routed by telco.
The message is something like no access or permittions but I do remember
getting another that was not informative. I am not at the site now show I
dont know the message. I have a feeling that this could be a DNS problem
but I can ping and route to each dns name. I can ping the domain.

I am so upset with it. I am administering for my local volunteer emergency
squad.
What I was tring to do for them was netowrk there systems. I built a server
for them installed w2k advanced server. I wanted this so that I could
manage the users, access and secure everything. I am not suer if there is
another way or if I can correct this problem easy.

Make sure that DNS on your servernic is pointing to your server-IP *only*.
You do have options 003, 006 and 015 in DHCP-server, Scope options?
The ISP-DNS-numbers should be set in tab Forwarders of DNS-server.

Not my day...all thumbs.

I've been having a similar problem. Restarting the server
service fixes it but only temporarily. Currently
restarting server service every few hours. Still looking
for solution to server service issue. Look for my StevenA
post.

Good luck.

That's how the DNS is setup.
