clients and scopes

if I have one physical LAN with 4 subnets and 4 scopes for each on the DHCP
server, say, one is accounting, one is research, one is manufacturing and one
is finance. How does the DHCP server know what scope of addresses to give
which set of clients in each department. When a client in research needs an
address what keeps it from getting an address from the subnet in research?
 
When the LAN Router forwards the DHCP Queries, the router includes in the
packets the information the DHCP Server needs to make the right decision.

no router between departments just switches. And what "information" can you
be more specific? I thought all I'd need would be an bootp router or comuter
with edited registry. How???? I'm on the edge of a break through here, don't
leave me hangin'.

You cannot do "routing" with switches, you have a router "somewhere".
Departments are irrelevant. This is a Layer3 thing, it has to do with IP
Networks/Subnets,...it doesn't know anything about "Departments"
And what "information" can you be more specific?

Heck I don't know. It is not something that you "do" anything with. You just
set the Router to forward the DHCP Queries and then you get out of the way
and leave it alone.

You use a LAN Router,...a "real" LAN Router". Hacking the registry on some
poor innocent machine isnt' going to accomplish anything. Using the RRAS
Service on a Win2k or Win2k3 Server OS may be able to do it, but I have
never done it.
