Hello,

I've set up a server running Windows 2000 server. Over
the last several months I've added/upgraded client PCs
without major issue; in fact I've added 3 new client PC's
this week (Windows XP Pro). However a wierd thing happens
on the 3rd machine- it does not show up anywhere in the
network neighboorhood/network places displays on any of
the other machines in our office- server included.
Actually it doesn't display on it's own machine either.
BUT, I can see it logged on the DHCP on server AND it is
mappable via net use command or Tools | Map Network Drive
if you explicitly know the machine name and share name.

So, its definately there- just not visually viewable.
Any insight is appreciated!

TIA,
Glenn

Is the BROWSER service running on the client computer?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, the Browser service is running (started | Automatic)
stil to no avail.

I have a similar problem on a two PC home network. Both
are running XP Pro. I am convinced it is a problem with
my home PC since my laptop works fine with any other
network. However when I network with my home PC, I
cannot ping it from my laptop or connect to it in any
way. However, from my home PC I can see and ping my
laptop just fine. So it ends up that any time I want to
share files I have to grab files using my home pc and
mapping a drive to my laptop since I can't ping or see
anything on my home PC from my laptop. What on my home pc
could be causing this one way network? Sounds like Glenn
is having a similar problem.

Hello and thanks,

Unfortunately still no luck. It really is odd as I have
removed it from the domain and just logged on as it's
own "test" workgroup.

When I search network neighborhood, I see the "Test"
Workgroup in Explorer- yet it's own computer isn't there.
However using Windows search function, I can look for the
computer name and it shows up in the results pane and in
the corresponding folder (test).

Here is the result of a net config server
<begin>
Server Name \\GB-03
Server Comment Glenn Dimension 4600-
P4 2.6Ghz; (Scv Tag:HYST631)

Software version Windows 2002
Server is active on
NwlnkIpx (8e7220524153)
NetbiosSmb (000000000000)
NetBT_Tcpip_{822125F1-6F37-4B89-909C-EFD42A8E1FF4}
(001018072dc7)

Server hidden No
Maximum Logged On Users 10
Maximum open files per session 16384

Idle session time (min) 15
The command completed successfully.

<end>

How wierd and baffling.

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn. I would run netdiag on it looking for any
errors. Also check that netbios
