Does anyone have an answer to this one?
We are hosting Remote Desktop on a Windows MCE 2005 which is connected
directly to the ISP's Internet gateway (only firewall is the Windows one).
The MCE system has a static IP set and several clients and remote into it
just fine. The XP Pro client we need to connect to it across the Internet
gives an error that it could not connect to the remote computer & to try
again later. Port Query program from the problem client PC returns:
TCP port 3389 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING
portqry.exe -n 66.97.x.x -e 3389 -p TCP exits with return code 0x00000001.
But the port is listening because other clients (LAN & WAN) can access just
fine.
This same client that cannot connect to the MCE machine has no problem
connecting to a Windows SBS Server 2003 that uses the same ISP but with a
different static IP. We have run a telnet test to that port and it will not
find it but since other clients on the Internet can access the MCE desktop
we cannot determine the source of the problem! Oh one more tidbit of info:
The SBS server above, acting as a client, cannot remote into the MCE machine
as well.
If anyone knows of any other tests or reasons why this might be happening
please respond.
