Is it just me or had vista consigned the art of the simple mouse-click to
history.

Why when i click on a folder does it always try to rename it ? If i wish to
rename it i would right click like every othe microsoft OS ever created.

Why when i click on a short cut from my desk top does nothing happen (no
feedback that i have clicked) so i click again and get two (or more)
application loading.

Is there some where to change click behaviour without setting up umpteen
user profiles with 136 sql server schemas ?

Most exaspereted - moving to linux - just need to convince my boss

Doesn't happen here - Vista Home Premium......

Maybe you need to change your mouse settings (Control Panel-Mouse, as in XP)

I have now changed to single click but the point (no pun intented) is why
should i need to change the way i have been navigating though window OS's for
last 13 years (bring back win 95) because of either a) a bug or b) much wore
a decision by microsoft to change.

BTW it is worse on a laptop!!

Try setting a longer delay in mouse settings for a double click to be
detected.

Well as I said - doesn't happen here and this is a laptop as well.

It hasn't changed in Windows. It is something on YOUR system. As
somebody already suggested it could be as simple as your mouse being
worn out. I just replaced my trackball I've had for years. Before I
did, the last few days were very strange. I would try to click on the
scroll bar and either it wouldn't take or it would jump all over the
place. If I clicked on a folder it sometimes would highlight it, other
times not until I repeated it and really clicked down hard. Same for
double clicking. The contacts over time just wear out. Once your
pointing device starts to fail it can do all kinds of odd things.

If it isn't that old, trying cleaning the gunk out of it by blowing
some compressed air or even lightly bang it's side on your desk.
Lastly, have you checked how it is plugged into your computer? I've
had it where the cable was just partially loose. Same symptoms.

Don't believe anything this stinking old croc -- > crocodile
named Ringmaster Albright has to say.

That has happened occasionally to me... one thing I noticed: if the
view is in either list or detail mode and I am not careful when
clicking (like, I haphazardly click only the text) the rename option
is activated. If I click on the icon only, it never happens.

I don't know if changing double-click speed will help because I have
my system set to work with only a single click.
