Clicking wab.exe does nothing!

I am using Vista Home Premium and Windows Mail and if I click on
WAB.EXE nothing happens. Same if I try to access the address book from the
toolbar.
The address book seems to be working fine otherwise.
The only way I can access the address book is to start to compose a message,
click on the To: field and then I can add to, modify, or get an address.
I don't want to go over to live Mail since it doesn't handle my Inbox
Folders
and all their subfolders properly.

any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Dave

wab.exe in Vista is a dummy program. Vista (windows mail, live mail) does
address book completely differently. It appears that some old programs
require wab.exe to exist, but will not work as expected with new address
book.

You could try a third party client to see if you like its way of handling
folders.

I no longer use Vista Mail (use Live Mail), but I thought it had icons in
lower left that included the Address book / Contacts.

I KNOW (at least that is what I remember :{) that WAB used to be a dummy.
But VistaRookie is right it does open the contacts folder, in my case it is
a dummy folder with a single entry in it for my default account with almost
all items blank.
(Vista home premium SP2)

A few weeks ago I did a full reinstall, so perhaps that is why 'nothing' is
there, I went immediately to Window live mail, never used the Vista Mail
program.

Thanks for the responses!
Unfortunately, they do not explain why I get no response when I
click on the Contacts button on the toolbar.
This has been going on for a long time, so a restore is
out of the question. The address book still works OK,
and I can import/export, or access it indirectly by
starting a message and clicking on the to: field.
I have never lost a message and my folder/subfolder
collection is quite large. I would use Live Mail except
when I import my folders, it really screws them up!
I'm sure that the real clue is that nothing happens when I click
on the Contacts button under Message Compose.

Thanks again, and I'll be looking out for more clues...

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them can cause
strange problems with Windows Mail over time.

Hi Gary,

I'm using Windows OneCare.

OneCare does not have a bad reputation for interfering with
Windows Mail. It should be OK.
Something may be corrupted in your C:\Users\you\Contacts
folder. If you have a backup of your contacts, try deleting that
whole folder, then rebuilding it.

OK. Will give it a try.

Thanks,
