Clicking e-mail addresses without having an e-mail program installed

I've got a problem on my computer which I believe is
linked to Internet Explorer (I use IE
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 on Windows XP Home 2002
SP1). Choosing IE is not an option in your help section,
so I've had to contact you using this route instead. The
problem occurs when I accidentally click on an e-mail
link, which would normally open my default e-mail
program. However, I use Hotmail, and therefore do not
have an e-mail program installed. The computer
recognises this and responds by opening 63 "action
cancelled" internet pages. This is very irritating, and
it takes ages to close them all again. Is there any way
of stopping this from happening without installing a
program I will never use?
