Click to Execute Speed Problem

Here is my problem: Internet Explorer and my desktop Icons are taking quite
a bit of time to react from the time I double click them until they execute.
I don't know the technical jargon for this thing when you click on an icon
and the time it takes to execute the exe. Maybe somebody can give me a clue.

Anyhow, suddenly, I am encountering a significant delay time between
clicking an icon on the desktop and the program executing. It used to almost
be instant, now it takes 4 - 5 seconds for it to "think" before reacting.

Just to eliminate all the standard jestures, I have done a lot of
investigating and do the following tweaks:

1). I routinely defragment my hard disk.
2). I religiously download and install ALL MS updates, firewall, antivirus,
and antispyware/malware definitions. I actually run five different
spyware/malware
scanners. I scan all the time with one or more. My computer is clean.
3). I have not installed any program that I know of which causes this delay.
4). I run a registry scanner and fix all problems. I compact the registry
hives.
5). I have set the appropriate permissions in my firewall so IE should
execute without delay.
6). I have not disabled any necessary services that relate to IE or Windows
Explorer or file execution times.
7). Have searched Google for registry tweaks and fixes...done that.

If anyone knows a registry hack or tweek that will speed things up, please
give me suggestions.

Thanks - JimC5

#2 Only one AV application should be run at one time
#4 Registry cleaning with an automated tool is not always a good idea

What sort of system stats are you working with?
