Hello,

I have a PC with Windows 2000 Professional (SP4) connected
to a HP LaserJet 1200 printer through a USB cable, used by
our shipping department. This printer is set up as a
shared printer on a network, so that our parts department
can print orders directly to that department. When users
try to print to this printer, the print jobs are lost 80%
of the time. The printer drivers have been uninstalled
and reinstalled without success. All network users who
are sharing this printer have user accounts on the
computer connected to the printer (the host computer). I
have heard that clearing some or all temporary files from
the host computer can help resolve this problem. Does
anyone know where these files might be stored (a
particular TEMP folder on the hardrive, etc.)? Also, does
anyone know of another way around this problem.

Thanks,

Michael Bentfeld

The temporary files for the print jobs on a server reside in:
C:\WINNT\System32\Spool\Printers
"How to Delete Print Jobs That Will Not Print"
support.microsoft.com/?id=162365

To resolve your problem, you should look at third party software that could
be the cause .....

DRIVERS:
In-box drivers are generally VERY stable, and are good to test with when
troubleshooting printing problems.
1. Install in-box drivers for the printer
(Start > Settings > Printers > Properties of the printer > Advanced >
New Driver. Choose the LJ 1200 drivers included in 2K instead of your
printer driver CD)
2. Uninstall the old printer drivers
(Start > Settings > Printers > File > Server Properties > Drivers)

PORT MONITORS
Check the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors"
registry key for third-party monitors.
Remove any non-default monitors (NOTE: Do not remove the HP Master Monitor
if it exists, make sure it is upgraded to version 4.2)
The default port monitors are:
- AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
- BJ Language Monitor
- Local Port
- PJL Language Monitor
- Standard TCP/IP Port
- USB Monitor
- Windows NT Fax Monitor (when applicable)

PRINT PROCESSORS:
There may be a third-party Print Processor that is causing problems.
Disable the loading of any but the default (WinPrint) by deleting their
respective sub-keys from the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windo
ws NT x86\Print Processors
