Clearing recent documents wipes out IE history?!?

I wanted to remove the Recent Documents tab from the Start Menu in Windows XP.

While I was making the adjustment, I accidentally clicked the "Clear recent documents" option. I
figured, oh what the heck, I didn't want the recent documents anyway..

Now, it seems that IE 6 does not show any items in the history drop-down - and I specifically have
it set for three weeks.

Is this >supposed< to be the way "recent documents" works?

Thanks!

Hi Larry,

Yes, that is how it is supposed to work. It does not allow for selective
deletion, and it hits many mru settings.

Hey Larry,

It's unfortunate you had to find this out the hard way like so many of us. What
is truly unsettling to me is that if I had used the "Classic Start Menu", I
would have been given an explanation (although brief) of what would be cleared
and thus avoided the clearing of my web sites.
