Good morning, I posted this question a week ago and
received one answer. Thoughtful, informative, but it
didn't solve my problem. Autocomplete refuses to turn
off or be cleared. Many past entries show up when I type
just the two letters ww I have tried all the
instructions for clearing and turning this feature off.
Nothing works. I tried removing and reinstalling IE 6,
to no avail. Where are these files hiding? I did a
search in the registry and the entire C drive for the
addressess that keep coming up, but cannot find them.
What's the secret?

Thanks,
Robert

Try the following:

Tools, Internet Options, General, Clear History. Then select the Content
tab, click on Autocomplete, clear Autocomplete History for forms, then
untick the box 'Use Autocomplete for Web addresses'. Then Clear History
again and close & re-open IE.

I managed to get rid of past URL's, but then my favorites and desktop
shortcuts kept appearing if I typed in a letter, eg typing 'w' would show
'Word.ink' and and any favorites beginning with 'w'. By following the above
precedure, I eventually managed to clear everything. I also haven't been
able to find where this history is stored - the whole thing is a bit quirky.

Hope this helps, Terry D.

Thanks, Terry, I'll give this a try. It's similar to
what I've already tried, but hopefull it will work. Time
for a reformat? It's been since XP was introduced, and
that would certainly do it!

Thanks again, Robert
