In Performance Rating I have the following listed programs, "causing Windows
to start slowly". I had the same ones before and cleared them, but no idea
how I did it. Suggestions? Was this because I accessed data on my XP
partition from Explorer?

Thanks!

MIGWWIZ.exe search turned up Files and Settings Transfer Wizard
Migration Wizard
Microsoft Corporation (lol)

Hello,

In performance rating, you can click on the peformance issue to bring up a
details screen. From that screen, you can check a box that says:

"I have resolved this issue. Remove it from the list."

That should keep it from being displayed. :)

I'd rather resolve it. But thanks for the suggestion to hide it.

I still think it had to do with accessing data on my XP partition...hoped a
reboot would clean it up.

Hmm .. MigWiz is the Windows Easy Transfer tool. Did you use it to transfer
settings from another computer? It may have caused your computer to start
slowly while it was doing some kajiggerin. It shouldn't be causing any more
problems, in any case.

Nope, sure didn't. The only thing I did do was acccess some files on my XP
partition. I guess it confuses Vista?

That shouldn't cause this message ... This message is telling you what
programs are taking a long time to process while windows is first starting.
I don't see how browsing your XP partition could be related. In fact, I
don't understand why that program was running when your computer started up.

Did you upgrade from a Windows XP installation?

If you go to Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Check your
System performance rating, click on the button that says "View advanced
details about performance issues."

This will open up log that you can scroll thru that will tell you (very)
detailed information about what happened. :)

I did a clean install on a fresh NTFS partition I created for Vista. I did
not upgrade.
I went to look at the event logs as well as the Performance Rating deatils
(that's how I got the list!) They are not in startup and I have not tried to
migrtate anything.

This application caused a slow down in the startup process:
File Name : migwiz.exe
Friendly Name : Migration Wizard
Version : 6.0.5384.4 (winmain_beta2.060518-1455)
Total Time : 33782ms
Degradation Time : 33282ms

Well, I'm afraid I couldn't find any answers. :(

My best guess is that is was performing some sort of post-setup operations
and caused windows to start slow the first few times you ran it. But I can't
confirm that. It is a valid windows system file, though, based on the
information you posted.

I'd say if you keep getting that notice to send a bug to microsoft using the
Microsoft Beta Client that you can download from the feedback link on your
desktop. Using that tool will send the contents of your event log to them so
they will be able to track down the problem, assuming it is a problem. :)
