When I use the dropdown "search" window in Explorer it remembers previous
entries. How can I clear the old entries from cache?

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using so I can only guess
at a suggestion. Try the following and see if it helps:
Tools>Internet Options>General tab
In the Number of days to keep History window, set it to zero
Then on General tab > Click the Clear History tab
Click Delete Files tab ( including the off-line files, be sure to check that
box)
Click Delete Cookies tab
Click Apply
However, anything listed in Favorites (which by default includes pages saved
for offline viewing) are not deleted when you clear History.

Clear History of Typed URL's

Unable to delete AutoComplete entries
When you are unable to delete the AutoComplete entries after selecting:
Clear Forms
Internet Option>Content [tab] |>AutoComplete [button]> Clear Forms [button]
Use the above method to delete the History folder as the AutoComplete
entries are actually stored in the hidden History\index.dat file. [more
info] (also applies to IE 6)
DelTypedURL [right-click and select: Save Target As]
Removes the URL's from the Address Bar drop-down list without deleting the
Internet Explorer History. To use: right-click and select: Install Note:
this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete.
If still no joy...
CCleaner

or

Hope this helps.

"Clear Forms" did the trick. I have been stumped on how to clear the
"search"
dropdown windows for some time. Thanks a bunch. Stukmeister
