I picked up an application through the internet that pops
up when I start Windows 2000 and leads me to very
disgusting stuff (no judgements here). It is a box in the
upper right corner of the desktop that reads "Search the
Web!" I cannot determine the app's name or properties.
Has anyone else seen this or knows how to get rid of it?
Thanks.

try this for hunting down spyware and popups etc
If you don't have any luck with the Spyware removal programs, the long
way would be to look in Start / Programs / Startup, and also in the
registry under \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run , for
the entry that launches the executable on boot. You can try using the
task manager first, and ending any suspicious .exe's found in either of
the above two places and seeing if the box disappears. If it does, just
remove the entry, and that should keep it from launching again.
