Hey there, would it be safe to use Mineralised Methylated Spirits and a lens
cleaning cloth to clean my CPU dye and HS? I've read its something like:

"MMS is a mixture of 90 parts by volume of spirits, 9.5 parts by
volume of wood naphtha and 0.5 part by volume of crude
pyridine, to each 1000 litres of which is added 3.75 litres of
mineral naphtha (petroleum oil) and 1.5g of methyl violet."

TBH i'm not that sure what that means, is it pure enough to use or will it
leave trace amounts of oil that will interfere with the AS5 compound?
I've also got one small medical pad with 70% isoprophyll alcohol, would that
be better or worse?
Thanks
JB

I would use the alcohol if I only had those 2 choices. You don't want any
oily residue on those surfaces. I'd even rather use a more pure alky....

Heat sinks I just wash in the sink with warm soapy water and a
scrubbing brush. Then re-polish after drying with a metal cleaner
like,"Brasso" for the bottom surface which has been flatted smooth
with 500 wet&dry rubbing paper.
CPUs I use an Isopropanol Electrical Switch cleaner like,"Servisol"
and usually push the CPU into a block of anti-static foam to protect
the pins from bending and clean remove old thermal paste whilst the
Servisol is wet with a clean small paint brush. Then dry off with clean
tissue.

HTH :)

Ok thanks guys! I've ordered an proper ISA based Servisol and got some wet n
dry paper cause i did notice surface scratches on the HS contact surface and
figured they couldn't be good! I want to get this HS mounted as well as
possible this time, the current CPU has a tendency to overheat and restart
my machine during long operations!
Thanks
