Cleaning System Folder

N

netcerebrum

My Windows XP Professional System folder has grown in size to about 2
GB after the installation of both SP1 and SP2 and various system
updates. I believe it would be because of duplicate system files, etc.
Is there any software or utility available through which I can remove
unnecessary and duplicate system files and reduce the size of my
installation to minimum. I have already deleted log and backup files.
Plese let me know.

Thanks,

Instead of playing with things you don't understand and possibly damaging your system, try these suggestions:

1. Run the Disk Cleanup Wizard. (Do not 'Compress old files'.)
2. Reduce the amount of hard disk space allocated to Temporary Internet Files, the Recycle Bin and restore points.
3. Move infrequently accessed media files to optical media to provide more space for Windows.

For a Windows XP installation, 2 GB is definitely on the small size. If you're running out of space, perhaps you need to expand your system partition (if your disk is partitioned) or buy a new hard disk.

How large is your hard disk and how much free
space? Is it partitioned?

Hope this helps.
