Cleanin' up the hard drive

Running windows xp..i have no problem using the disk cleanup on my side of the computer...However, on my sons' side -the disk cleanup does not clean out the 'compress old files', nor does the the day option work..i can change the day, of course, but it bounces back to 50.

Any suggestions?
