I had upgraded my ME system to XP Pro. Since then I want
to replace my hard drive which has become noisy. This
computer is a HP Pent. III and came with a restore CD
set. It doesn't have the Windows ME CD's separate from
the restore set. I have been reading that installing new
hardware in a preconfigured system can cause trouble
activating the XP system. I also read where I may need a
previous Windows CD in order to clean install my upgrade
version of XP. Can I use any copy of Windows I can find
to clean install my upgrade version of XP Pro?

if the restore disk has an i386 folder in the root then it should qualify
for the upgrade, and you can do a clean install. If not then you can't!

yes u can .. All u have to do is put the cd in on boot and
when it asks u for a copy of windows put in any older copy
and then it will ask u to take it out and u then install
windows XP pro..

enjoy
