I've installed Windows before but this one is new for me. After I put the cd
in I get "can't find harddrive(s). Have I inadvertently turned them off? How
do I turn them on?

You need to provide more info, make/model of PC, exact steps your taking, is
this a reinstall or fresh install.

Fresh install. HP workstation xw8000, XP SP2. I used Dban to wipe. Loaded in
the start-up floppies then was prompted to load XP SP2 cd, hit enter. Then
came the couldn't locate hd(s).

I didnt look at your HP specs but perhaps they are sata drives & you need to
use the F6 function early in the winxp install process to install sata raid
controler drivers from *floppy*

BTW why wipe with a third party tool and use startup floppies, the winxp cd
contains all that is required to delete/create partitions

I keep pushing f6 like crazy on start-up but the options I get are esc
.., f2, f8 and f12

Not on startup, during the launch of XP setup, at the bottom of the screen
you will see the prompt to press F6 to provide drivers via floppy disk.

Now startup is working but U get a window saying LSI adapter hasn't passed
Windows logo testing ( it did when I originally installed it ) then after I
hit next I'm prompted to add the XP 25 #code and I get invalid. Obviously it
had valid a couple of days ago. Are these problems related by chance?
