Hi
Just updated from XP Pro to Ultimate, I thought that when I booted from the
Vista disk it would do the same as XP, that is I could format the drive and
the install on a clean drive, but it just installed and kept my XP in
windows.old.
I have deleted windows.old as it was using to much space, as there does not
seem to be a format in Vista whats the best way to format then install
Vista, do I boot off my XP disk and format then take it out and boot from
Vista or is there a better way

Thanks

Your right, VISTA does not do a detailed disk analysis first thing as XP
does.
As the VISTA install proceeds in loading file etal, it finally gets to
looking at the
drive and it asks question about 'shrinking the disk' and partitions.
I believe ( I don't remember all the details ) that it does any necessary
clean up when you re-parftition even if request just one active partition.
