I didn't first read that it is better to do a clean
install of Windows 2000 instead of an upgrade from Windows
ME.

Now that I did the upgrade, can I go back and do a clean
install?

TIA
Michael

You can do a clean install at any time. This is where you
start with nothing on the system and load Win2K. After
your operating system is up and running, you load all of
your programs and data. Just be aware that you have to
back up anything on your system that you don't want to
lose. IT WON"T BE ON THE SYSTEM AFTER YOU DO A CLEAN
INSTALL! All files on your system will be overwritten, or
better yet they will be erased by a format before
installing Win2K.

Thanks a million Jim.

Actually, doing a clean install of Win 2000 DOES NOT
overwrite your data files or anything else. I am in the
process of doing this on six machines and what you end up
with is two operating systems. If you choose "Windows"
instead of "Windows 2000" at the initial prompt you will
open to your original desktop and everything is still in
place.

The only way to start with nothing is to format the hard
drive before you install Win 2000.
