Clean install & SP1

If I do a clean install of Vista home premium will SP1 be the only Vista
update that is downloaded and installed?

I am wondering if all of the old updates are still hanging around somewhere
that is listed in the installed history.

Are there old files that could be removed after SP1 installation?

Yes, if you do a clean install, and install SP1, that will be the only
update. No other updates (or files or settings) will be there.

Thanks for the response, I guess meant to ask will SP1 be the only update
offered for installation?

Should old updates be removed?

Ah. No, there will be other updates as well. And the old updates are fine.
The SP1 is in addition to the other updates. You can do them all to be fully
up to date.

If you download the full stand alone SP1 version then you would install that
first and not use the Windows Update first. After the install of sp1, you
then can turn on automatic windows updates to catch updates that have come
out after sp1.

Thanks. I downloaded SP1 through automatic update and installed it that way.

Where can I download SP1 so I can save it to a file so I can backup and
install it after the clean install of Vista.

Go to Microsoft's web site and navigate your way to their download center.
Then navigate your way to their windows vista downloads.
Currently the service pack 1 download is #15 in popularity.

Thanks, got it!
