How do I maintain my NAV 2004 subscription while doing a complete
reformat and reinstall of Windows?

I've searched here and elsewhere and can't find the answer, including
spending about 25 minutes logging in to my account with Symantec and
plundering through a bewildering maze of roadblocks and canned
non-answers.

Is there some file or registry hive that I can backup first. Or, do I
have to call Symantec to do this?

Here's the answer I got from Symantec Customer Service. You call them
with your old and new account IDs at 800-441-7234. Next time you run
LiveUpdate your subscription will be returned to it's previous state.

Here's my summary of the steps:
1) Before reformatting open your NAV window and go to Help and Support.
Choose "About Norton Antivirus". On the dialog that pops up you
should see your account ID. Write that number down.
2) Reformat and reinstall Windows and NAV
3) Repeat step 1. A new account number will have been assigned.
4) Call Symantec at 800-441-7234. Tell them what you're doing and they
should ask for the two account numbers.
5) Run LiveUpdate. Apparently this will pick up your new subscription
information automatically and you'll be done.
