Hello everybody, I am about to buy the Windows Xp upgrade
cd. I have a full windows 98 cd but I have a new
harddrive. Instead of installing Windows 98 onto the new
drive, can it be possible to boot from the Windows Xp cd
first and then check for my windows 98 cd later? I would
hate to have to install both. Thanks Doug

Yes. You can perform a clean install with the XP upgrade CD and use the 98
CD for the qualifying product.

At the point in the XP install process where it comes up with an error
"Can't find a qualifying product...", take the XP CD out, put the Windows 98
CD in, and browse to the CD. The XP install program will examine your
Windows 98 CD to see if it qualifies, then you will put the XP CD back in to
finish the install.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP Upgrade CD. The Upgrade CD checks to
see if a qualifying OS is installed, and, if it finds none, it asks
you to insert the installation media (CD) of that OS. Unfortunately,
an OEM "Recovery/Restore" CD will not work for this purpose; you must
have a true installation CD, complete with the "\Win98" folder and
*.cab files, or the "\i386" folder of WinNT/2K.
