i use windows xp home, and i've set up my pc to use the
classic start menu. but is there any way i can customize
it even further so that i have only the following items
on it:

1.) turn off...

2.) run

3.)search (in this, i want only "files or folders", not
people or media or whatever else)

4.)settings (in this, i want only control panel,
not "printers and faxes" and "taskbar and start menu",
both of which i can access from the control panel anyway)

5.)programs

so basically, i'm sort of trying to build my own start
menu...please let me know if i can do this, it would be
really awesome if i could.

(the other stuff like my documents, and help and so on
i've already disabled through the "taskbar and start
menu" submenu under start-->settings.)

Right click the Start button/Properties/Customize button/Add button/Remove
button/Advanced button.
Since you disabled Help and Support, Enable it and look there!!!!!!

The first thing to do, if you have questions, is LOOK in HELP, not disable it.

Why do you use XP with 'flat' classic menu? XP is so much
3-D and neat. I have XP menu with only MyComputer and
Control Panel (right side) and Media player and Calendar
(left side). Very small menu...compact...13" screen.

You can get to:
Help/Support = WinKey+F1 (or F1 on desktop)
Run = WinKey+R (or r)
Find/search = WinKey+F (or f)
Check-out other keyboard combos.

That allows you to change what's shown in the Programs list and a few
others, but not all the other things.

My guess would be personal preference. After reading your post, I
switched to the XP style menu, customized it to show only the items on
it I wanted (that I could customize) and it's still too frelling big
with things I don't want and a lot of wasted space.

Jeffrey;
Try this, then: Right click the Start button/Explore All Users. You could
probably delete the whole enchilada, except for a couple or so, but I am not
going to try. :o)
I have mine the way I like.
