I have MovieMaker 1.1 which came with my Dell 2400 computer. This was the
first time I have used MM. I downloaded video from my digital camera into My
Videos folder in the computer. The display came up in MM with all the clips
that I had taken. I was able to combine some of the clips before I "Saved the
file". The next time I got on the computer to continue my editing and I
clicked on a clip I got the message "ClassFactory cannot supply requested
class". I clicked Okay and got a second message "An error occurred while
tryint to play C:\documents...............file name.WMV". Has anyone
experienced this? What can I do to get MM working again?

Is this a stills camera or a camcorder?

This may help

Why do I receive "ClassFactory cannot supply the requested class"
(80040111)?
The file you're trying to play was created with a non-Microsoft codec, and
there is a problem with the codec. To determine which codec is required to
play the file, first use a codec detection utility to determine the FourCC
code of the file. Then, look up that code on the FourCC for Video
Compression page, or on the codecs section of the FourCC page. After you
determine which codec is required, you can then download it. However, keep
in mind that some codecs can introduce instability with programs or your
computer in general, so make sure that a codec is from a trustworthy source
before downloading it.

I got a reply from Graham Hughes that said I may have a Codec problem. I
downloaded and installed GSpot. When I checked the 3 video files I have,
GSpot indicated that a Codec was n.a. One of the files it said was not a
valid AVI file. One it said was a ASF file (.WMA/.WMV) and should be playable
in Direct Show. The other file was a MPEG file that should also be playable.
These files are playable. The file that it said is not an AVI file is the one
I downloaded from my digital camcorder using Movie Maker. This is the one I
want to edit and can't.

I was wondering if the fact that I have MV1 instead of MV2 is a porblem. I
have downloaded XP SP #2 twice to get MV2. Both times I had problems with my
computer and after conversing with Dell Support was told to Uninstall SP2.
The second time they suggested I order the CDs for SP2 and try that. This
takes 4-6 weeks. Is there anyway I can get Movie Maker 2 without installing
SP #2?

Weird that you downloaded with MM and it doesn't work????????
Can you recall the settings you chose for capture?
If not, try another capture and under setting choose "other" and then
"dv-avi". Do a short test first if the original piece is long.
