Class of 76 'cleverer' than kids of today

I recently did a pre-employment test for a possible new job & got told beforehand it would be a pen & paper test and not on a computer. Seems the level of grammar & English has fallen with the on-set of people using Computers the whole time.
 
I work in schools.

I see 14 year olds reading and learning from books that I'd mastered at age 9.

That's not a rule of thumb, but it does happen, I've seen it.

I am 57, no longer middle aged I guess and my hair turned white when I was 40.

These facts do not detract from the fact I'm cleverer than you :)

In fact, I was probably brighter than you are now when I passed my eleven plus.

Why is this?

Perhaps it was the fact we could be punished with a cane. And we were.

Maybe, maybe not.
