I have found through task manager that the process CISVC
causing my CPU usage to be at 99%. I have learnt that
CISVC has something to do with "microsoft index service
helper" along with cidaemon.exe.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Can I stop it from loading up everytime I turn the PC on?

Is it an essential process to have running?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

its a service that runs in the nachground and indexes your hd to speed up
searches (if you do them).
If you can live with a somewhat longer response time when searching your HD
for stuff, you can turn this service off.
Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative tools,
Services and look for: (guess) Indexing Service. :-))
Stop the service and set the startup value to Manual. That will allow the
system to start it if it should need it (for I don't know what reason) and
you'll have your cpu cycles back.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I just did what you said,
but haven't rebooted yet. I still don't understand why
the CISVC.exe was taking up all my CPU power though?!?

Cheers,
Peter
