Background: I have recently changed jobs, and so stoped using microsoft
exchange server. I deleted all old contacts, and imported my personal
contacts from Outlook express.

My problem is that my contacts dont seem to be in the address book. There
is a grey circle next to their names instead of the usual "person" icon (on
the top of emails they have sent me). And when i try to search for the
contacts, outlook tells me they are not in my address book. What am i doing
wrong? Should i delete all the contacts and re-import them?

Thanks for your help :)

You need to provide some information for anyone to be able to help you.
"Stoped using microsoft exchange server" means what exactly? How did you
reconfigure Outlook and what information store and mail transports are you
using now?
Outlook does not use an address book to store data. It uses Contacts
Folders. Do you have Contacts Folders that contain the data you imported?
What Outlook version?
How did you do your import from OE and what data did you expect it to
contain if you were using Exchange Server before now?

My outlook was set to microsoft exchange server when i was at my old job, i
asked a friend to reset it so that it no longer tried to access the server.
Im not too sure what she did, however outlook seems to be recieving my
personal emails and not my old work ones without a problem now. Its just the
contacts that i am having trouble with. I used to keep my emails seperate by
using OE for personal emails and Outlook for work.

The version of outlook is Office outlook 2003

Not to sure what you mean by

" what information store and mail transports are you using now?"

im guessing this is what you are asking: my email is a pop3 account.

I do have a contacts folder with the contacts that i imported from OE, all
the info is there, it just doesn't seem to match up with the emails in my
inbox, ie it seems to not recognise that the email is from someone in my
contacts folder.

I imported the data following the instructions on the website, started in
outlook, import files....etc

Is there anything else you need to know?
