What are some hints about what will cause CIDAEMON.EXE to execute all the time? On one of my XP Professional Systems, it is always running while on the other it is not.

CIDAEMON.EXE is the Indexing Service that runs in the background and
catalogues files so that you can search for files containing a specific text string.

What would cause (2) cidaemon.exe to run at the same time in task manager? I saw this earlier today and ended the process on both the active cidaemon that was running at 99% and the cidaemon that was idle at 0%. As of the time of writing this only (1) cidaemon is running but is at 99%. This has just started to happen. What clued me was that the fan on my Dell 8300 was running all the time

Can you control cidaemon and/or what would cause it to be running so much all of a sudde

I have exactly the same problem, i wouldn't mind if it ran in the background without desturbing everything else, It's driving me nuts where is the off button?

I'm having the same problem and saw two earlier replies regarding a
corrupted file as the culprit. How would I find which file(s) is the
corrupt one(s) for deletion if I wanted to continue using indexing?

Thanks!

i was having the same problems. do a search for Commit Charge. the first string that comes up should have that subject, and the answers there solved my problems.

if you're lazy, with with the amazing power of cut and paste i can give you the one thing that you really need to know from that:
"start/search/change preferences/turn off indexing services"
