My Sisters Laptop runs Vista Home basic, IE 7. She is plagued with these pop
ups from Web sites as soon as Explorer is running. We down loaded Ad-Aware,
ran the scan for almost 4 hours, it found nothing. We then tried
Superantispyware, and that found just 1 tracking cookie, which was deleted,
but the problem still persists. Can anyone suggest what we might do
next?.Thanks

I`m using IE8 , but look under Tools in the menu bar look for popup
blocker .

If this machine is running Vista, why are these question in an XP
group?

XP browsing popup solutions (which are not the same as ideas) may not
work for Vista.

What are "these pop ups from Web sites" - what does that mean? Just a
a bunch of popup ads? Is your browser being redirected to sites you
don't want to visit?

Does Ad-Aware include a popup blocking feature?

If it is not secret information, what is the URL of a/this troublesome
WWW site and we can try it and compare results.

So far for the XP systems located here, a combination of Firefox and
the Adblock Plus Add-on runs circles around IE for popup blocking.
All free stuff. Once the mechanism for popups is understood, they are
easy to get rid of.

For a test, run both browsers at the same time on the same WWW pages,
flip back and forth between the two and decide which is better for
you. Check in Firefox to see the number of ads blocked, etc.
Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of things you will not see.
