Choppy, broken audio when saving to DV

hi

I created a slideshow consisting of about a dozen JPEGs, each with a transition effect and some with video effects. I added an audio track using a .wav file. The total slideshow length is about 2 minutes. It plays just perfectly inside MM2, or from my hard disk when saved as a .WMP file, or from a CDR when saved to CD

However, when I send it to a DV camera, there are several, noticable breaks. The breaks may be in the video but this isn't prominent because they are still images, but it is quite noticable in the audio, which cuts out for a 1/2 sec to a second, every once in awhile. This is noticed as it is being recorded to the DV cam, which is a Sony TRV22 connected with a iLink (firewire) cable

What is the cause of the problem; is it my computer? I have a Dell Dimesion 4400, Pentium 4, 1.6GHZ, 256M RAM. Nothing else is running, and to be safe I started with no unneeded services

Thanks for any help
Best

The export to camcorder task is the hardest one for your computer to do
smoothly.... hard drive tune-up is critical - free space and defrag... Also,
the WinDV utility (link on my Digital Camcorders > Intro page) uses a larger
buffer and might do the copy from hard drive to camcorder easier.

No sacrifice, the quality of digital video is fixed.....

Thank you; I will try that!

But, will I sacrifice any quality by first saving to AVI and then using
WinDV to export the AVI to the DV cam? (Neglecting the fact that the audio
quality is already poor due to this choppy-business.)

hi,

I looked up the WinDV utility on your web page. The most useful thing was finding your site.
Under your Digital Camcorders -> Introduction section you describe saving the DV-AVI
file and making sure it wasn't fragmented. I did all of this, but didn't even need to
run the WinDV utility. Even the DV-AVI file on disk had choppy audio, just as when I had
exported it to DV tape previously. So, I guess that means it is MM2 that is at fault.

I then read your lengthy Problem Solving -> Audio Issues page, and paid closer attention
to my problem. The breaks in my audio were only on transitions.

What I found worked for me was the procedure about half-way down, dated 12/25/03,
Edited posts by Anthony (and Phil). Tedious and time-consuming, but it works. As I
said earlier, mine is a ~ 2 min slideshow of ~ 12 JPEGs, each with transistions and some
with video effects.

Thanks,
Dave.
