Choosing a photo editor

With all of the choices to make. I know what I want to do with my digital
images, which editor will do what I want. I would like to use shareware or at
least free trials until I am comfortable enough to then purchase the software.

What I want to do is be able to cut out parts of one photo and insert that
into another photo. It seems simple enough, but so many editors only allow
you to manipulate the current image, not move it into another. You know, like
insert people into another background.

Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 can do
what you want. If you would like to test drive
the program...download the Starter edition.

Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006
is a downloadable 60 day trial version with
much of the functionality of MS Digital Image
Suite 2006.

Once your 60 day trial period has ended, the
program will de-feature to minimal functionality.

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and does
not support RAW files.

To do what you described I would look into free trial version of:
Microsoft Digital Image 2006
or
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4

Of the above, the Microsoft product is easier to learn and use. Both will
probably have a new version coming in August or early September. I am not
sure of this, just speculating from past experience. So if you don't need it
in a hurry just wait a month.
 
Paint Shop Pro (now from Corel) is downloadable as a timed trial.
You may find the older versions on sale at retail stores. Check prices
before you buy.
