I just purchased a machine that has the recovery
information on a partition on the active hard drive. The
system came with XP home. I upgraded to XP Pro and now
whenever I boot into Windows, I receive a dos screen
giving me a choice of the recovery partition or booting
into XP Pro. The default is to boot into Pro, but I
would like to eliminate this step and speed up my boot
time.

I went into msconfig under the run function. Under
BOOTINI, there seems to be 2 command lines that refer
specifically to the latter boot description. Should I
delete these 2 commands to eliminate this snag? One
other side issue. I just installed Word 2002. I tried
to copy the command lines using, "Ctl/C" and then "Ctl/V"
and instead of pasting what was copied, I get a pdf icon -
what's that all about? This was a new one to me!!

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi,

Start/run C:\boot.ini

Remove the line you don't want from the [operating systems] section. Change
timeout= to 3.

after deleting this entry on your boot.ini

"C:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows Recovery
Console" /cmdcons"

delete the folder named C:\Cmdcons

this is a hidden folder, you have to unhide protected
operating system files. by opening folder options and
view.
