Choose Download

Silly question guys but when i download stuff from the net i cant seem to
chose where to save it too, i used to get a box that popped up and ask but
now i dont any reason why or how to fix the problem, using both firefox and
IE 6

Firefox doesn't give you a choice - it downloads to the pre-configured
download directory.

On Firefox if you are using ver 1.5 there is an option to prompt.
It's under tools > options > download

Does IE 6 give you this option to as i use IE6 more often with still the
same result

For IE, you work with File Types. Look up the file type using Folder
Options> File Type. Select the file type in the list. Then click Advanced
button. On screen that appears, place a check in the box next to "confirm
open after download." OK your way back to the desktop. The next time that
you download that file type, you should get a prompt for a save location.

IE will remember this location until you change it.

NOTE: If you need to make this change for EXE files, Folder Options won't
help you. You could edit the registry directly or use Doug Knox's file
association fix for EXE files. Doug's fix can be found here:
