I have a scenario with a help file not opening thru its application, but will
open directly from the file. Is there a security issue with this? I thought
I remember reading something regading this.

Thanks
David

When you click on the file directly I suspect you will get a "Open File -
Security Warning" dialog box. Notice the little check mark beside "Always
ask before opening this file". If you uncheck this the file should then open
from the application without incident.

I don't know if this will apply or not, but try checking the Properties
for that .chm file. If there is an "unblock" entry on the first
properties page, usually lower right part, click it and it should work
fine after that. I don't see much benefit of the lock, but it' s common
with some files.

Thanks for the assist, but I have checked into all of the suggestions below.
The error I get is 'Navigation to the webpage was canceled'. I recall
reading something regarding this as a security issue. But unfortunately I
can't seem to find what I had read. If I go directly to to CHM it opens fine.

Some older operating systems had a different definition
of .CHM files. Check the dates on the CHM (help) file.
You may have to update the application.
