CHKDSK runs every time on boot up and every time it reports
no problems. How does one stop this process from running
everytime? Thanks

Dear Diggy (James?)

Thank you very much for your return posting on my CHKDSK problem. It
was uncanny because the Registry was configured properly but it still
ran (every boot-up) on one drive anyway. I did what your link suggested
which, basically, turns CHKDSK off completely so I don't know what the
downside to that might be. I do run 3rd party (SystemSuite) every now
and then which also checks all disks before defrag. If you have any
other comments or suggestions I would appreciate it (please email me).

I also want to commend you for taking the time and effort out to be so
kind and help a stranger out; too many times that goes by without proper
acknowledgment and I didn't want to do that. Best wishes for the New
Year to you and yours.

Sincerely,

Rick

Rick,

Usually this indicates there is a disk error, most likely in the free
space where chkdsk/f cannot find it. Run chkdsk/r on the boot
partition. That should correct the error. Chkdsk/f may not correct
this one.

Thank you Lance. I did as you suggested and I believe it cleaned up since there was a "found" file on the C drive. However, I did not reset the registry to default settings on the SCANDSK section (it is now deactivated from any auto startup). Should I reset to original settings or is it OK to leave this way and simply run the 3rd party file checker when I defrag.

Thanks and best wishes for the new year

Rick
