I've tried running chkdsk on my XP machine (set chkdsk /r /c: to run
upon next boot up), but upon reboot it doesn't run. Must be doing
something wrong, but what?

At a command prompt, type chkdsk /f (with a space in front of the /). Then
reboot. Let us know what happens.

Try through windows. My computer - local disk (c:) - right click -
properties - tools - check now - automatically fix file system errors.
good luck.

Cool. Another one of those features I never knew about. And it worked
too. Thank you.

Thank you. That worked. Just curious, but what is the difference
between the /f and the /r value?

Not alot really. /f fixes errors on the disk. /r locates bad sectors and
recovers readable information.

Glad it worked.
