CHKDSK Problem

Trying to check my hard drive for erors but it seems just to hang for ages.

'CHKDSK is verifying indexes (Stage 2 of 5) 0 percent completed'.

It just hangs at 0% even though hard drive light is flashing & it sounds like it's looking for data, It also will not CheckDisk going through C: and Tools.

Is their any other tools on the net i can download to check the state of my hard drive?
 
Look for the "tools" from the HD manufacturer. ;)


Hope the HD is ok, sounds to me it may have bad sectors ... got a spare handy?

Anyway to turn off CHKDSK as every time the pc starts up it runs it, but freezes on stage 2!
I've checked it this morning using HD Tune and all OK.
Will check out Maxtor website.
