Ben

every time i boot up my computer, it runs chkdsk
on top of that, it gives a message stating "cannot open
volume for direct access"

how do i disable chkdsk, and why am i given that error
message?

thanks

can someone please help me?
ive searched faq and other support centers, but i can't
find anything

I am getting the same thing. When i boot XP Pro i get the
scandisk and the screen is all puke yellow instead of the
blue color it should be. I have to 80gig WD drives and
the second one is the one the gets checked everytime. I
did have this drive on a hard drive controler that when
bad and not the drive is slaved to my system drive. I
have it on cable select though because slave and master
will not work no matter what configuration i use. Anyways
im probly going to reformat both drives sometime soon,
but i am still interested in why this happens.
